Don't Forget Your SPF!

Sunscreen is a product you should never leave the house without! Unfortunately, many think sunscreen is solely used to prevent sunburns during the summer, and adults tend to fail to prioritize it in their skincare routine as they get older. We are here to explain the importance of sunscreen, regardless of what time of year it is!

WHY SHOULD I WEAR SUNSCREEN?

  • Reduces risk of developing skin cancer
  • Regularly using an SPF of 15 or more decreases your chance of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by 40% and melanoma by 50%.
  • It helps prevent premature skin aging.
  • Sunscreen is the #1 skincare product to prevent signs of aging, including sagging skin, wrinkles, and age spots. Help stop aging before it starts!

WHO SHOULD WEAR SUNSCREEN?

This one is easy. Mom, dad, sister, even grandma should be applying SPF! EVERYONE should prioritize sunscreen and use it daily, regardless of your skin being prone to sunburns or not.

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?

Sunscreen should be included in your daily routine, rain or shine. The sun’s UV radiation can reach the Earth up to 80% even when it’s cloudy! We recommend applying 30 minutes before going outside and reapplying every 2 hours and immediately after getting out of the pool or sweating excessively.

WHAT SUNSCREEN SHOULD I USE?

Choosing the right sunscreen can be daunting as there are countless products on the market. Our favorite brands are Obagi and SkinMedica, which both carry tinted and non-tinted versions of sunscreen. We also LOVE the Jane Iredale skincare makeup line! Their pressed and loose powders are pure minerals, making them some of the most effective sun protection products.

WHERE SHOULD I APPLY?

We recommend using sunscreen anywhere skin is exposed, including your face! Don’t forget easy-to-forget places like your ears, knees, and scalp! Use it as the last step of your skincare routine before applying makeup.

The moral of the story is that sunscreen should be a staple product for everyone. Even though summer may be coming to an end, sunscreen should stay included in your daily skincare routine year-round!
